Returning to FreeBSD 7, as a desktop OS
I've been living with Windows Vista as my "wintendo" since the beta releases but recently purchased a new laptop. I have no TV by my desktop which means no hockey, which is just not acceptable. So I decided to reload my desktop with FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE which came out the end of February.
7.0 installs the same as any FreeBSD version. Plan text interface, end up on the command line. Several ports failed for me initially but a quick install of /usr/ports/devel/glib20/ cleaned things up nicely. Added all my important favorites.
Irssi, xchat, wget, ettercap, nmap, bash, vim.
I haven't rebuild the kernel yet. I'll save that for a boring night. So far everything works, including my Audigy 2 that creative still has not released Vista drivers for...
